This is a political communication from a woman whom her supporters wish to be the leader of the free world. That’s the title generally accorded to the president of the United States.

The quote, a tweet from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and self-proclaimed chief Mama Grizzly, offers advice to conservative talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger who quit her job after using the word nigger 11 times in a call from an African-American listener, prompting numerous protests.

Palin’s advice consists of six letters — “reload.” Her explanation of the advice — consisting of a treatise on the First Amendment, the conditions under which that amendment does not appy, the existence of activists politically opposed to Schlessinger’s conservative ideology, the means of silencing a political opponent, the definition of “American,” and whether the contretemps between Schlessinger and activists is “fair” — consists of 91 characters, not counting spaces.

Palin has mastered the art of remotely operated and ideologically congealed political dialogue that includes inventing words.

Sitting somewhere at a keyboard, Palin (well, presumably it’s her) fires tweets, Facebook status messages, Sarah Palin blog posts, and then sits back as the presumably separately operated SarahPAC rakes in the money necessary for her to prosper as a nationally viable political candidate.

Palin’s brand of reducing political complexity and nuance to the level of junior-high texting has, in the 14 months since she stiffed the citizens of Alaska by resigning as the $125,000-a-year governor, earned her 230,767 followers on Twitter, 2,158,394 fans on Facebook, a blog that averages 8,000 unique visitors a month, a PAC that’s hauled in $3.4 million in the 2010 election cycle, a $7 million book deal, $250,000 per episode for a reality show, and speaking fees of $100,000.

The ability to warp the English language into mere sloganeering syntax; anoint candidates from afar in 140 characters or less; and entwine philosophy, economics, feminine psychology and stereotypes, and political ideology into vague, incomprehensible symbology has, in one year, made her famous, arrogant, and rich — $12 million rich in barely a year.

What a marvelous role model for young men and women everywhere. Now they know what kind of education they need if they aspire to becoming leaders of the free world. Or titans of industry. Or moms.
